Tasting Note:
Tradition and innovation meet in this Spanish red wine from Rioja crafted by Bodegas Altanza. Altanza Reserva is a varietal Tempranillo coming from over 50-year-old vines planted in different locations in the Rioja Alta region.
Following a philosophy of minimum intervention, the grapes of this Reserva red wine were handpicked and manually selected. Fermentation and maceration took place in stainless steel tanks, where the wine must remained in contact the grape skins in order to extract colour, tannin and aromatic compounds.
The wine was then transferred into French oak barrels. There, it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for over a period of 18 months. After that, Altanza Reserva 2014 spent a further period of 2 months in big wooden vats.
Finally, the wine was bottled and aged for another 12 months in the cellar prior to its commercial release onto the market.
